Ly Nguyen is a creative writer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is inspired by immigrant journeys and urban landscapes. Ly is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz. In 1999, Ly co-founded Oasis for Girls, an arts and education center for young women in San Francisco which recently celebrated its ten year anniversary. Her short stories have been published in the San Francisco Chronicle, Chocolate for a Women’s Soul, Nha Magazine, and As Is- a collection of Vietnamese -American Literary and Visual Art. From 2006-2009, she was a contributing writer to The Oakbook, a popular magazine based in Oakland, California. Since 2003, Ly was awarded artist residencies at Hedgebrook, Voices of Our Nation, Soapstone, La Macina di San Cresci, and Vermont Studio Center. In 2004, Ly was the recipient of individual artist awards from both the Puffin Foundation and City of Oakland Cultural Arts Grant.
